VoIP Payphone

Finally got the payphone mouted up. Here’s how I did it.

the wall

Parts:

  • ATA
analog to digital converter. this is what you register with your sip provider.
  • Payphone
I got mine off ebay in a non-working state but that’s okay because the important parts were there.
  • PoE Splitter
the ATA only needs 5v and I like the clean look, but this is optional.
  • SIP service subscription
I like voip.ms but use whatever works best for you. I pay about $4/mo for my phone number.
  • Payphone conversion kit from payphone.com
Payphones run on street power and so do their parts. Ranging anywhere from 25 to 130VDC. This device replaces the standard keypad with one that generate DTMF at a much lower voltage and has a neat little ringer thing on it.

internals

The red board on the left is the conversion kit, the blue lights on the right are the ATA and just to the right of that is the PoE splitter.
